Frequently Asked Questions
-
Esse helps busy parents stay on top of school and family logistics — including forms, deadlines, activities, schedule changes, and other important updates that often get buried in email.
-
Esse connects to tools families already use — starting with Gmail and Google Calendar — and identifies important school and family-related information automatically.
Esse then organizes what matters into summaries, actionable tasks, and planning tools designed to help parents stay on top of upcoming responsibilities and schedule changes.
-
Important school and family logistics are often communicated through email. In order for Esse to identify and organize deadlines, forms, schedule changes, and other action items automatically, it requires access to the emails where that information is shared.
Esse does not request Gmail write access and cannot send emails on your behalf.
-
Esse uses Google Calendar access to help organize school and family events alongside your existing schedule.
Calendar read access allows Esse to understand upcoming events and scheduling conflicts. Calendar write access allows Esse to create and maintain a separate Esse calendar within your Google account for identified events, reminders, and planning support.
Esse does not modify your existing calendar events without your knowledge or control.
-
Esse uses your data only to provide core product functionality related to organizing and surfacing important school and family information.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not use your email or calendar content to train public or general-purpose AI models.
You can disconnect your Google account and request deletion of your data at any time.

-
You can connect a separate Gmail account dedicated to kid logistics if that feels more comfortable. Some families use a separate account for school, daycare, camps, and activities, or forward only relevant messages from their primary inbox to that account. Esse will only work with the Gmail account you choose to connect.
The tradeoff is that Esse can only find updates that reach the connected account, so forwarding rules or school contact settings need to be kept up to date.
For forwarding, we recommend following Google’s official Gmail instructions: Automatically forward Gmail messages and Create rules to filter your emails.
-

-
No. Esse does not request Gmail write access and cannot send emails on your behalf.

Yes. Esse is in early access, and we are still improving what it catches, how it organizes updates, and when it reminds you.
The goal is to reduce the burden of discovering and remembering kid logistics, but Esse may still miss details or interpret something incorrectly. You should treat Esse as a helpful assistant, not the only source of truth.
